Act Now…A New Drug Coming to a Store Near You!!!!!

America is the land of innovation and overconsumption. While we have our freedoms, as compared to other nations, we also have our downfalls. The United States reportedly consumes more drugs than any other nation on the planet. While being on the cutting edge of innovation we, as a society, have navigated the loopholes and created another legal drug, derived from an illegal drug now being sold in stores nationwide to take away your pains, anxieties and overall lack of satisfaction with life.
According to a study conducted by the Rand Corporation, drug consumers in the United States spend roughly $100 billion annually on cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine (http://www.rand.org/pubs/research_briefs/RB9770.html). That’s a staggering amount of money being spent on substances that give users a daily or hourly reprieve from their problems.
The Drug Craze
The United States is known for being the “mother of invention” for many “legal” drugs. Synthetic drugs have been on the rise since the 1980’s. Basically they are untested, unregulated drugs whose side effects are often unknown. Assisting to popularize synthetic drugs was MDMA, in the 1970’s, used in psychotherapy sessions to get a patient to “open up” and make them more willing to talk to the therapist. MDMA then became a street drug in the 1980’s.
As time went on, so did the creation of synthetic or “legal” drugs. For a while “Spice” was all the rage for drug users looking to get high without flunking a urine drug test. Originally sold as a legal pot “alternative" it is comprised of man-made cannabinoid compounds. It was quickly banned which prompted chemists to take the original drug and change it, creating a new compound that was not prohibited by law. Then that became illegal and the drug was changed again. Each time a new compound is created and outlawed, a new chemical is created. At this stage of the game, we are so far removed from the original drug that professionals really don’t know what these synthetics are anymore or what the side effects are.
The same goes for “bath salts” which were a “legal” alternative for methamphetamine. The chemical has been created, banned, then changed so many times no one really knows what this drug is at this point.
Each time a new, legal drug is created, addiction professionals cringe, knowing what’s to come, which at this point is a new type of drug addict who has a myriad of adverse reactions from using these substances.
What is CBD?
Right now, the newest item is CBD hemp oil or Cannabidiol. THC and CBD are both compounds that are found in cannabis. CBD products contain very little to no THC, which is the intoxicating, psychoactive agent found in marijuana. As a result, CBD is used for it’s proclaimed “medicinal properties” and is now being sold at head shops, E-cig stores, gas stations and convenience stores across the nation, ready to be consumed by pretty much anyone who desires it.
However, according to the Hemp Industry Association:
CBD is not a product or component of hemp seeds, and labeling to that effect is misleading and motivated by the desire to take advantage of the legal gray area of CBD under federal law.
CBD is a by-product from processing hemp. CBD oils is created, “Indirectly, as a co-product of flowers and leaves that are mixed in with the stalks during hemp stalk processing for fiber,” per the Hemp Industry Association.

According to a supporter of medical marijuana:
“... the risk of contamination runs high in commercial hemp cultivation since hemp is known for sucking up heavy metals, solvents, pesticides and other toxins from the soil. These toxins then become concentrated and passed along through extraction into the final product.”

Supporters of the medical marijuana industry are admitting to the high levels of toxins contained in their drugs through the synthesis of “medicinal products.” Heavy metals, solvents and pesticides can cause major health problems along with those associated with drug use.
So here we are, in 2016, dealing with yet another “legal” drug. With medical marijuana being a hot-button issue, it is important for people to consider what they choose to consume.
Even hotter than the issue of whether marijuana should be legal is the following question:
If this is where society has evolved (constantly creating “legal” drugs in an attempt to stay one step ahead of the legal system), where will we be in 10 years?
