A Bottle of Wine and a Handful of Pills: Hockey Mom Saved by Intervention

I’ve always said that interventions can be the difference between life and death and that still rings true. Not everyone is willing to seek help and going to a drug rehab and sorting your life’s problems out is a logical choice. You can’t always expect someone who is using drugs and drinking massive amounts of alcohol to make a logical choice since what they’re doing on a daily basis is highly illogical.

No family can sit idly by and watch their loved one self-destruct. It becomes even harder to watch when a marriage is on the line and the kids are being adversely affected. Missed hockey and soccer practices, ruined holidays and birthdays, and the overall embarrassment can be too much to bear. And when the parent refuses to get help, all feels lost.

But that’s when interventions come into play. When all hope is gone, an intervention is the last ditch effort to get someone the help they need and start piecing their family back together.

A.P. is the most recent graduate of the Narconon Suncoast program and she’s a completely different person, just 90 days later, then she was when she walked in through the doors. She was the product of an intervention after abusing alcohol and pharmaceutical drugs for years and when she first arrived, she was not a happy camper. She didn’t want to be here but knew she needed help. As we trudged through the initial paperwork and routed her into the program, I told her she had nothing else to lose and everything to gain, to give the program a chance, and maybe it could save her life. And now, the difference in her is night and day. She’s not a new person, she’s actually herself for the first time ever.

“As a whole, I’ve gained my personal integrity, ethics, morals, and values. I got myself back and, most importantly, my kids got their mother back.”

“When I arrived at Narconon Suncoast on February 15th, I felt horrible. I didn’t want to be here. I didn’t have energy and my head was in a complete fog. My lower back and legs were in so much pain. Being in the Drug-free withdrawal helped me to gain a sense of my surroundings and realize, that I definitely wasn’t in Kansas anymore.

“After finishing the New Life Detoxification program, I felt physically amazing. I could actually feel all the toxins being removed from my body and, oddly enough, my back and leg pain was completely gone. After going through the Objectives, I regained the ability to confront, control, and communicate with the world around me for the first time ever. Life skills gave me such an amazing amount of relief and I finally feel like I can face life drug and alcohol-free. I cannot thank the Narconon Suncoast staff enough for all the help they’ve given me. As a whole, I’ve gained my personal integrity, ethics, morals, and values. I got myself back and, most importantly, my kids got their mother back.”

And that’s the magic of an intervention.
