I’m sure we all remember those TV clips from the 80’s with the frying pan and the egg.

This is your brain on drugs

But we all know that it was just a scare tactic to keep us away from drugs…

Unfortunately, this is NOT really the case.

It’s true. Marijuana damages the lungs, nerves and brain.

Marijuana: aka dope, ganja, grass, herb, bud, Mary Jane, pot, reefer, skunk, weed, hash, chronic, 420, a popular drug for people of all ages, legal with a prescription and accepted socially to a large degree.

AND Marijuana is an extremely dangerous and addictive drug.

It is rumored that pot is not physically addictive.

This is FALSE.

Like other drugs, marijuana burns up the needed vitamins and nutrients in the body-and pot does this immediately upon consumption. You can feel its effects within minutes or even seconds of smoking it. Due to the chemical THC (a neurotoxin, which is a poison that damages nerves) there are changes that occur in the nervous system and the nerves actually go numb.

Because of the deficiencies created in the body by the drug, pot smokers experience aches, pains, depression, lack of ability to concentrate, anxiety, sleepiness, rapid heart rate and disorientation among a host of other side effects. As a result the body NEEDS this drug to dull the discomfort it is responsible for. It’s a real catch 22!

After that initial “high” on marijuana the person continues to reach for that same sensation, often unable to attain it. Each time someone smokes pot the high is slightly less and each time they feel a little bit worse afterwards. This fact is a major contributor to why pot is labeled a “gateway drug.” The high gets less intense and the person searches for something else to get to that initial state.

Did you know that marijuana smoke contains 400 different chemicals? These chemicals stay stored in the fatty tissues of the body for weeks, months or even years affecting a person physically, mentally and emotionally. Of these 400 chemicals 60 of them are carcinogenic, or cancer causing. Smoking a joint (basically a pot cigarette) or a blunt (removing the tobacco from a cigar and replacing it with pot) exposes a person to five times the amount of cancer causing chemicals than that of a regular cigarette. There is major potential for long term damage to the lungs, not to mention the sore throats, chest colds and severe coughs that go along with smoking marijuana.
