Suncoast Rehab Center helps people every day with addiction to both prescription and illegal drugs.  One way to purchase drugs these days is through the internet.   So, we wanted to look into how safe the internet is for purchasing drugs.

Ordering Drugs Online

Per all observations, there are unscrupulous online pharmacies without proper licensing.  These are the types of places that could possibly provide incorrect prescriptions or allow people to use false prescriptions to obtain drugs.  Additionally, some international pharmacies sell drugs like GHB, which are illegal in the US, but legal in other countries.

An issue with online pharmacies which can encourage addicts, and even make new addicts, is that some provide an online user with a prescription after only taking an online questionnaire. This means that prescription drugs are being provided off of a person’s word on what is wrong with them – with no examination by a doctor.  This is especially dangerous if the person does not read and understand the side effects, or indeed has no doctor with whom to discuss side effects which may interact poorly with other physical issues the person may have.  Additionally, this means that drugs with a possible serious side effects and addiction risks are being provided to any person with an email address and a credit card.  An addict could conceivably create several email addresses and purchase a large amount of addictive drugs from these sites.

In addition to purchasing drugs from online pharmacies, drugs are being purchased online from drug dealers on forums and other websites.  These drugs can be completely unsafe, as there is little to no quality control nor assurance of standardization in the creation of the drugs nor consistency in their potency. Purchasing drugs from such sites has been likened to a form of Russian roulette.
