Suncoast Rehab Center Recognizes Black History Month

14 Feb 2014

Throughout history there have been people who inspire others to live a better life and create a brighter future for generations to come.  Many such people are an integral part of the African American fabric that enriches the nelson-mandelaworld.  Today we’d like to give these inspirational individuals the recognition they deserve.

One such individual – who recently passed away – was Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first black president.  After he became president in 1994, he went on to become an inspiration to individuals of all races, worldwide.  His philosophy of living life and embracing the changes he caused can encourage anyone attempting to overcome adversity, whether that adversity is the everyday struggle of life, fighting addiction, or conquering the prejudice of others.  One incredibly inspirational quote from Mr. Mandela helps one see how he conquered the adversity he faced.  This is:

“I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head pointed toward the sun, one’s feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death.”Oprah Winfrey

Throughout history there have been inspirational people of all colors, races, and beliefs.  In modern times such people are easier to access through television, radio, and the internet.  Some of these influential people and their inspirational quotes:

Oprah Winfrey who said: “The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude.”

Will Smith who stated: The first step is you have to say that you can.” Dr. Mae Jemison

Michael Jordan told us: “If you accept the expectations of others, especially the negative ones, then you will never change the outcome.”

Dr. Mae Jemison said:What we find is that if you have a goal that is very, very far out, and you approach it in little steps, you start to get there faster. Your mind opens up to the possibilities.”

These are just a few incredibly inspirational modern giants and what they have to say.  There are many more people of all races that inspire us to carry on and improve our lives.  We at Suncoast Rehabilitation Center want to express our gratitude to them and to all those who have come before them.  Together, we can all work to make this a great, drug-free nation.
